it’s a shame, you’re such a great photographer she should not have made the sweeping generalisation. when anna wintour posed for you, that picture looked amazing, i thought it was the best portrait of anna ever.
shame on alexa.

Why were you offering her your card? need some context before i decide if her refusal was rude or not.
She probably spoke with hundreds of people that week, so I wouldn’t take her failure to remember your name personally. don’t see anything wrong with ‘topshop photographer’ – she associated you with that place.

Not sure who comes off worse here tbqh! Is a bit spineless to air your grievances on the internet after the event. Why not say it face to face? Seems in poor taste as she did agree to pose for you..

Sorry I thought that was what blogs were partly for – to share dialogue and encourage comments form readers. If Alexa’s attitude was not so dismissive I would have mentioned it to her for sure.

I thought Alexa was supposed to be quiet approachable, so I hope this was just some type of miscommunication or she was having an off moment.
And, to the individual who seems to disapprove of Wayne’s commentary on the situation: This is a blog where the author has the right to express himself visually or textually. You have the right to discontinue reading, or to avoid this blog. Censorship, or rules on what is or is not appropriate, is a little intellectually primitive, don’t you think?

I agree with Wayne. It takes much less effort to politely accept a card than to refuse it. Seems to me like Alexa was trying to let Wayne know she considers herself ‘too good’ to be photographed by him! As the old saying goes – if you don’t like the party, stay outta the kitchen (or something like that ;)).
Now this discussion is all over the blogosphere…

OK someone asked for context, so I will give it. I saw Alexa Chung arrive at the Luella show and after saying hello – and making no attempt to photograph Alexa, – I was greated with O “look it’s the Topshop photographer!” At which point I offered card, and Alexa refused me with a dismissive ‘talk to the hand gesture’, as she swanned past. However Alexa’s agent took my card – no doubt sensing the insensitivity of Alexas gesture . I have to admit I was surprised and a bit taken back by Alexas refusal and did ask again, but got the same response. Oh well you win some you loose some. lol

Hi Wayne, thought I should stick up for myself… I was being pushed and harangued by a number of photographers that day. Now arguably I have put myself in that position and so should withstand it, but sometimes, just like everyone else, i have an off day and can’t be arsed. Your constant self-promotion had been noted at two shows prior to the Luella one and I had paid attention to your website name (thus me coming on here to check out your pictures) and so felt I didn’t need a card, I think I said this at the time. You trod on my friend’s foot as you were hustling somebody else for a picture and that annoyed me. My calling you “the Topshop photographer” was in no way meant to be derogatory, if anything i was simply noting that I remembered you because you had said you liked to take different shots to everyone else, so it was more of a “oooh look!” rather than “he’s just…”. I’m sorry that i have offended you and I’m sorry I felt the need to respond, I just find unnecessary mud-slinging highly irritating and wanted to stick up for myself. Must dash, have plenty of “swanning past” people to carry on with.

PS. The lack of capital I’s in my comment is regrettable.

Hi Alexa
I appreciate you getting back to me. I’m glad you clarified the situation. I don’t hold anything against you and I did give profuse apologies for the foot stepping incident, which was totally unrelated and happened inside the show. I was just trying to take a decent photo of Peaches – which she agreed to do – something a little different, and definitely not hustling. I am not a press photographer or a paparazzi and if someone does not want me to take a photo then I leave them alone. I am bit clumsy with my big boots on, lol!, but I do have manners.
My art director and I pride ourselves on the highest standards and only put up the best images. It is a shame you are constantly so harassed by the media and the Topshop pics didn’t work, but I love the photo Garance took of you and I hope you like the one I chose of you too. I wanted to say something about your world, with constant media attention. As far as the constant self promotion is concerned, unfortunately I don’t have an agent or a publicist, so I print extra cards and give them out to many people who I think might be interested. Thank you for taking the time to write to me Alexa, keep on swanning honey! lol!

re: your question at the end
Celebrity status/media attention have nothing to do with it, she is just a patronizing and rude person.

Alexa stans always amuse me with their defensiveness. I’ve never cared for her style really, if you go to Urban Outfitters or Shoreditch you’ll see her ‘original style’ isn’t so orginal anyway but to each their own. She sort of seemed like she could be pretentious and arrogant in real life, it’s interesting to read something that isn’t sugar coated from someone who’s had the chance to meet her. Hopefully next season, there won’t be so many pictures of her sitting front row. whats with that anyway?

I read about this on Ohnotheydidn’t.com and was about to respond in the vein of-that Chung woman is a stuck up bee-Atch. Now reading her response it goes to show that there are ALWAYS two sides to every story. Tried and tested cliched of course. It does seem you both were a little in the wrong. Glad you got it sorted, though.

“I read about this on Ohnotheydidn’t.com and was about to respond in the vein of-that Chung woman is a stuck up bee-Atch”
So you judge a person by other people’s comments, like oh so many seem to do online…You have never met her, right? Yet you were ready to call her `a stuck up bee-Atch`. Classy!

i just really fancy her.

do you guys not realise that these remarks of her being a bitch have not come up from thin air? it’s pretty obvious imo

Hi Wayne, you are a fantastic photographer, love your shots. I guess during fashion week frenzy, sometimes people get too excited and can also feel over pressured by the constant attention, especially from high profile personalities like Alexa.:-)
So hopefully no hard feelings between both of you:-) Continue to inspire us with your amazing work, Wayne!:-)

Thanks Kevin – Storm in a tea cup! Thanks for your vote of support, I will continue to do my best to try and produce inspirational work.

Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post in your blog with the link to you?

Who the hell is Alexa Chung? I had to google her. Nobody watches her show here in the US. Wack!!! She should be grateful that Wayne took the most best photograph of her life because the others I found online she looks washed up. Humility goes along way girlfriend. Chill out and enjoy your little fame.
Wayne keep up the good work. Love Love your stuff. Jah know!

I agree with “whocares”. This Alexa Chung girl is just another annoying hipster. She used to be a London hipster, now she moved to the US and is a Williamsburg hipster with a bad MTV show. She used to have a column, too and she tries to be all witty and sarcastic and oh so self-deprecating but it really is so predictable. Her public twitter and interviews constantly have her moaning about how much she is “working” and she really seems to be a moody b*tch. Welp, understandable, if you’re in a constant state of hunger. Apparently she “forgets” to eat because she is “working” so much. Yeah right. It’s so obvious she has got an eating disorder going on and it is really a shame that there are some girls who admire her look.
Anyway, great site and good work, Wayne!!!

Wayne can suck my dick. You fashion bloggers are annoying, always trying to put your foot in the door, while other people are going to college and getting english degrees and studying journalism. While bloggers try to use quirky and self deprecating text to urge people, that they’re really cool people. Bloggers are ruining fashion.

Another thing… though I’m not a huge fan of Alexa Chung, it serves her right to dismiss you. From what you’ve written, it looks like you need to get over yourself. So into yourself that you had to write this on your blog, hoping to garner up support for people to hate some it girl, as much as you did at that point. Only generalizing your side of the story, and not expecting for her to come on your blog and tell HER side. It would’ve been a win for you. Your a coward for not telling to her face how you felt about her, and your a blogger because you’ve got nothing else meaningful to do but promote you sartorialist-garance dore- wannabe sight.

Hey no one is perfect. I was just expressing an opinion and I my comments were not meant to defamatory in any way. I just want to take beautiful pictures!
