Pulp Fiction
September 13th, 2010This is designer Gareth Townshend, one half of the team behind Zanzan, (the other being Megan Trimble). Together they make ultra stylish and noirish, must have – women’s sunglasses. Gareth tells me he was greatly influenced by French and Italian New Wave films… Gareth went on to tell me that more recently a friend introduced him to the Italian Pulp, Crime films of the 60s and 70s. This genre is known as Gialla or Black Hand films. Gialla, Italian for yellow, refers to the jacket covers of the pulp fiction books, which the films are based on The Black Hand is also a reference to the close-up shot in the films, of a single black glove often left at the scene of the crime.
